Public School Jesus

None of us were taught to believe in God
but weren’t given much of a substitute.
“God is you and what you do,” they said,
“and don’t worry man, s’all good.”
But I don’t believe that for a minute
and I see no reason to,
‘cause half the time I ain’t doing
anything I ought to do.

And I can’t be here to preach what’s what
‘cause now we all got a mouth to shoot,
but I know there’s no public school Jesus,
and really, man, nothing’s good.
Kids ain’t gods and neither are we
and this ain’t something new,
‘cause half the time we ain’t doing
anything we ought to do.
